Rate increases of 90% to 120% are now common
State government cannot continue to ignore this problem.
Ratepayer groups are giving up, saying that no one is listening.
Most council's have been allowed to borrow large amounts of money, if they were to operate as private companies they would be bankrupt and forced out of business.
We call on the State and Federal Governments to investigate this problem, it cannot and must not be allowed to continue.
We were told that amalgamation would lower rates and council’s would become more efficient, quite the opposite has clearly happened.
Councillors are no longer representing the ratepayers. A ratepayer recently phoned his ward councillor and expressed his concerns over the excessive rates and was told that he (the Councillor) was very busy and would get back to him in 4 weeks.
Most councils are controlled by young councillors with no or very little business experience; in fact some are still attending universities.
Councils claim extensive Consultation - what a joke!
There is a saying that you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all the time.
It is now time to stand up and be counted, we urge ratepayers to attend council meetings and let those that allegedly represent us, that we are not happy.
