Nominations for MAV President and Board announced

Nominations for the office of MAV President, together with seven regional Board positions will be contested in the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) elections on 3 April.

 

The eight candidates for MAV President are Cr Peter Clarke (Melbourne); Cr Michael Clarke (Maribyrnong); Cr Rod Fyffe (Greater Bendigo); Cr Lyn Gunter (Murrindindi); Cr Reid Mather (Buloke); Cr Bill McArthur (Golden Plains); Cr Jane Rowe (East Gippsland); and Cr John Sipek (Moonee Valley).

 

Candidates have been elected unopposed in five of the 12 MAV Board regions:

 

·       Cr Geoff Gough, Manningham City Council (metro east region – incumbent Board member)

·       Cr Geoff Lake, Monash City Council (metro southern region – incumbent Board member)

·       Cr Sam Alessi, Whittlesea City Council (interface region – incumbent Board member)

·       Cr Jane Rowe, East Gippsland Shire (rural Gippsland region – incumbent Board member)

·       Cr Ken Gale, Moyne Shire (rural south west region)

 

In a separate ballot, councils will vote to elect a further seven regional Board representatives. Candidates contesting regional Board positions are:

 

 

The MAV President is a popularly elected position from the 79 elected MAV Representatives who comprise State Council (the governing body of the MAV). Board members represent their regional grouping of councils and are elected by MAV Representatives from within their region.

 

Only councillors who have been formally appointed to the role of MAV Representative by their council can nominate as a candidate for the Presidency or Board and vote in the election.

 

The election will be conducted by postal ballot and results will be available after 4pm on Friday 3 April once votes have been counted. The President and Board term of office is two years.
