The Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC) released the Discussion Paper for its Metropolitan Melbourne Investigation on 15 October 2010.

The Discussion Paper is the first of two reports from the Metropolitan Melbourne Investigation.  Amongst other things, this report documents the use and ownership of public land for the 29 metropolitan municipalities in the investigation area, the contribution of public land to Melbourneís liveability and public open space across the investigation area.  Also included in the Discussion Paper is a small number of proposed land use changes aimed at enhancing the protection of biodiversity.

The Discussion Paper can be viewed and downloaded from VEAC's website at

Additional hard copies will be available from 26 October 2010 from the Department of Sustainability and Environment at 30 Prospect Street, Box Hill, from Information Victoria at 505 Little Collins Street, Melbourne and from local council offices within the investigation area.  Copies can also be obtained by contacting VEAC (see contact details below).

The Council wishes to thank you or your organisation for your submission during the first formal submission period for the investigation.  The release of the Discussion Paper marks the beginning of the second formal submission period.

Submissions are welcome on the Discussion Paper.  Submissions will inform the Council in preparing its final report, which is due to be submitted to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change by May 2011.

The submission period closes on Monday 20 December 2010.

Details on how to make a submission are on VEACís website and the inside front cover of the Discussion Paper.
