Cutting 3% of Australia's greenhouse emissions while creating 2300 new jobs! That's what we could achieve by closing Australia's dirtiest coal fired power station at Hazelwood, and replacing it with cleaner, greener energy

On Saturday week Victorians are gathering for a family-friendly rally to replace Hazelwood with cleaner energy. With the Victorian election just weeks away, let's turn out in force to make sure practical solutions to the climate crisis are at the top of the election agenda.

The crowd is always lovely and, for a change, it looks like the weather will be too!  Bring the kids and a friend. Will we see you there?

When: Saturday, 6 November at 1pm
Where: State Library, cnr Swanston and La Trobe streets, Melbourne

Replacing Hazelwood would be a huge practical step to tackling the climate crisis - and it's within our reach. The Victorian government has already pledged to scale back Hazelwood's dirty operations by 25%, while the plant owners have said they would like to work toward shutting down the whole plant. With the State Election just weeks away, let's call on all political parties to do better, and commit to funding a full replacement of Hazelwood if the Federal Government chips in to help.

Of course, replacing one power station alone won't shift Australia's economy to the greener, more sustainable future we need - for that, we need to put a price on carbon pollution. But that won't happen unless we ensure that climate change is atop the agenda at every election, state and federal.

Nor can we afford to sit back and wait. Replacing Hazelwood, the most inefficient power station in Australia, is among the most cost-effective ways around to reduce Australia's pollution right now - and it means creating over 2,000 jobs in cleaner industries like natural gas, wind and solar.

Imagine replacing Hazelwood - the symbol of everything that's wrong with climate policy in this country - with clean, renewable energy. It can be done. Please join us next Saturday at 1pm outside the State Library to show your support.

This isn't about flicking a switch - it's about taking measured and smart action for the community, the environment and the economy to ensure that everyone involved get's a fair deal. With your help we can build a clean energy future in smart, measured ways.

That's why our friends at Environment Victoria are organising a family-friendly rally on Saturday week in Melbourne.

Will you be a part of it?

Thanks for all that you do,
The GetUp Team.
