New Aussi PM Julia Gillard not a big population fan!

Posted June 27th, 2010 by Sheila Newman

Today, in a press release titled, 'Change of direction on 'Big Australia', Kelvin Thomson wrote: "I am really pleased by the announcement by the Prime Minister that she intends to take a new direction in population policy, and to chart a course away from growth towards sustainability." At candobetter.net we are delighted to be gob-smacked.  Here's a pod-cast of the recent Insiders (ABC) program on the change of P.M. http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/insiders/201006/r591095_3782163.mp3

Russian Trade Minister looks in vain for kangaroos

Posted June 27th, 2010 by Sheila Newman

Russian Trade Minister asks where the kangaroos are in Queensland after being shown around rural Australia where the 'roo meat industry pretends they are in 'plague numbers'.

There's nothing like Australia promoting its iconic kangaroo when it is slaughtered by the thousands

Posted June 26th, 2010 by Tigerquoll

What immoral hypocrisy we have in Australian Government when one arm legitimises mass kangaroo slaughter as a 'kangaroo industry' and promotes 'kangaroo harvesting', while another department promotes the kangaroo as its 'hopping icon.'

Tourism Australia's latest marketing campaign claims to be based on the 'core truth'.

Well how can it be truthful? Tourism Australia needs to drop the kangaroo logo from its advertising while the slaughter continues or else drop its core truth campaign.

Kangaroos are indeed what is 'unique and special' about Australia. It is immoral to slaughter wildlife. It is hypocritical to promote wildlife values while also promoting its slaughter.

The Top 10 Pat Cliches of Civic Boosterism

Posted June 25th, 2010 by tim

To win election to local office requires a fluency in vacuous growthist idiocy, a combination of greenwash and bimbo boosterism. Here is toolkit of ten cliches that are generic to successful political campaigns across the anglophone world. If liberally sprinkled throughout your speeches, you will be guaranteed favourable treatment from the business community and the lap-dog media, dependent as it is on the advertising revenue of the real estate industry.

Gillard's Government should be a team made credible

Posted June 25th, 2010 by John Marlowe

Irrespective of Rudd's failings, and we should not understate his leadership in saving Australians from the demise of the GFC; no leader deserves a factional coup d'etat. The process of leadership replacement where a political party can suddenly replace a Prime Minister or a State Premier without electoral involvement is undemocratic. Political parties are elected on the merit of their leader. That merit earns an electoral mandate. If that mandate is not fulfilled, it is for the electorate to judge.

This highlights our dependence on one person to lead the nation. It is an unnecessary risk. It is the Government and specifically a Cabinet team of ministers who should be running the country, not Rudd, not a gang of four, not just Julia Gillard. Running a country is immensely complex. It is a shared responsibility and requires layers of delegation and good governance.

(Overpopulation) Sydney Growth Centres - urgent Report - deadline

Posted June 24th, 2010 by admin

Every state government in Australia is trying to impose unreasonable and undemocratic population growth and development on Australians. On the heels of the Victorian protests, here is another urgent notice from Geoff Brown in New South Wales about the Sydney Growth Centres.

One of Candobetter.net's main reasons for existence is to help Australians stop fighting local environmental brush-fires and start targeting the nationally organised arsonists - the Growth Lobby - where it dwells in political parties, government, business and organisations.

The Seven Stages of Political Correctness

Posted June 23rd, 2010 by tim

Political correctness, like grief, can only be overcome in stages. By tapping into the inner strength that lies within each of us, and tuning out the greenbabble of self-righteous soft green hypocrites, you can overcome your habit of parrotting the prefabricated opinions of journatlists and politicians and regain your intellectual independence. But learning to think for yourself cannot happen overnight. Let me walk you through it.

Australian farms up for grabs - China's Government buyers

Posted June 21st, 2010 by Vivienne Ortega

The Chinese Government is buying Australian farms to directly feed its population. Farm buy-ups were not referred to the FIRB unless they were worth more than $320 million! So, unless the farm property is under this amount, it just becomes "international" land! Unease about global food shortages in the next 20 years - and long term agricultural market opportunities - have made Australia and areas of South America prized targets for foreign government-aided enterprises and private investor groups.

One more Kangaroo 'Cull' in Canberra - this time in Nature Parks!

Posted June 21st, 2010 by Menkit Prince

The one place where you'd think our native animals, our national icon would be safe - a nature park. Yet the ACT government has ordered yet another cull in no less than seven nature parks in Canberra. This time for 1,890 kangaroos (joeys uncounted as usual). The grounds for such a cull?  Oh yes, to protect endangered species like the perunga grasshopper, legless striped lizard, the Golden Sun Moth and grasses. Since when does a native species degrade the environment?  Only ferals do that - like homo sapiens!
