School Proposal At Tye Estate, Kerrie:  Yet Another Major Development Proposal In A Water Catchment Up For Decision

(17/10/05 – P) Meanwhile we continue (and continue) to wait for Minister Hulls to introduce the new Rural Zones

Another proposal that would be prohibited in the new State rural zones – if we could only get them – came before Council on October 12th.   The large Tye Estate is proposed to be the location for a new primary and secondary school (with either 60 or possibly 80 students – no-one’s sure yet how many although the application is for 60).  It would be a significant expansion over an existing use right on the property for a camp for 33 people.   Just a couple of problems:  Most of the land is within a proclaimed water catchment (the Kerrie reservoir which supplies water to Romsey actually shares a boundary with the Tye Estate), and most of the property is ‘land use determined’.   That means how the land can be used has already been determined by law, and guess what, it doesn’t include a school.   When, oh, when will the Minister approve the rural zone translations?
