Comparison Of Protection Provided To State Significant Areas

This chart compares the level and types of protection given to 3 areas of recognized State significance.  All were originally protected by Statements of Planning Policy supported by legislation.  That legislative support was lost in 1987 when the Planning and Environment Act replaced the Town and Country Planning Act.

In 2006, Yarra Ranges has two layers of legislated protection (Regional Strategy Plan and Green Wedge are both included in the Planning and Environment Act), and Mornington Peninsula has one (Green Wedges).  Macedon Ranges has none.
