Macedon Ranges Needs You!
For 15 years State governments have promised to protect Macedon Ranges from over-development and suburbia. We are still waiting.
Macedon Ranges has had its own policy, Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 - Macedon Ranges & Surrounds, since 1975. Then, it was State policy. It must be again.
Resident or visitor, if you treasure Macedon Ranges' natural beauty, natural resources and rural character, thank Statement of Planning Policy No. 8, and SPEAK UP.
To keep Macedon Ranges rural, to protect what you love about this place,
tell the State government the Macedon Ranges' Localised Planning Statement (State policy) must be the Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 policy.
Macedon Ranges: Endangered. Of State level significance. It needs State level protection. It needs Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 as State Policy.

SEND A MESSAGE TO POLITICIANS
The Objective: Keep Macedon Ranges Rural.
The Promise: Last election, the State government promised to protect Macedon Ranges with a Localised Planning Statement (State planning policy) retaining Statement of Planning Policy No. 8.
The Policy: Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 has protected the environment, towns and rural areas of the Macedon Ranges and Surrounds since 1975. It says protecting the environment and natural resources, and keeping Macedon Ranges rural, comes first.
The Problem: Macedon Ranges Council has produced a Localised Planning Statement that weakens Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 and shrinks its policy area, leaving main towns and rural land unprotected from suburban development.
The Difference: Council’s new Localised Planning Statement (LPS) does not protect Macedon Ranges from suburbia; Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 does.
The Task: Please write or email State politicians and candidates telling them you value Macedon Ranges, and want all of it fully protected by State policy. Don't stop there: post on their Twitter and Facebook pages.
THE MESSAGE:
1. If the new Localised Planning Statement (State policy) isn’t Statement of Planning Policy No. 8, it’s not good enough, and it’s not the protection we were promised (and need).
2. Protecting Macedon Ranges means more than protecting Hanging Rock.
3. Only Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 keeps Macedon Ranges rural.
4. Protection is needed NOW.
5. The new LPS must be Statement of Planning Policy No. 8.
