Department Of Planning Changes Its Contact Details For General Planning Enquiries

(21/2/09 - P) But why is the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development [DIIRD] involved?

Here's what is happening: As part of improving service to the general public, first point of contact for planning enquiries is being moved to Information Victoria. From 2 February 2009, general planning enquiries to State government should be directed to 1300 366 356 (local call cost) or email: planning@diird.vic.gov.au. NOTE: The DSE 136 186 service for planning ceased on 30 January 2009. Regional office and other direct DPCD contacts remain unchanged.

It's good that service to the general public is being improved. What we can't quite work out is why are general planning enquiries being directed to DIIRD - the people who gave Macedon Ranges the Gisborne Call Centre!
