As a member of the [Macedon Ranges] Shire’s planning scheme review committee, I, along with Christine, continually argued for the retention of SPP8 as a state policy.

Returning SPP8 to a state policy will be a leap forward, and I’ll continue to work for this re-instatement.

I fully support the proposal to restore the level [of] protection to that of State Policy.

I would push to re-endorse Statement of Planning Policy No. 8 – Macedon Ranges and Surrounds 1975 as State policy, and to limit population growth and development in the area in order to protect such areas of environmental significance.

Has excellent understanding of what people in Macedon Ranges value about their communities, and shares values of other residents.  Is protective and pro active in standing firm in the face of State attempts to over ride local government and community wishes.

Acknowledges features & ambience, and community concerns. Supports review of current planning laws. Would ensure laws balance values of MR.

From a personal level I certainly have a vested interest in keeping the area from becoming an outer suburb of the city. If Planning Policy No. 8 is to be replaced or written out of the planning scheme the new structure must be comprehensively explained to residents. Given that the policy contains planning protection of the region the removal should not be able to happen as a matter of course, new structures must be developed to protect the individual characteristics of the Macedon Ranges region to replace those lost. Removal of the Planning Policy No. 8 should not become an opening of the gates to allow over development and suburbanisation of what is integrally a rural community.

Labor shares your passion for the unique environmental values of the Macedon Ranges and agrees they are worthy of protection.  To this end, Macedon Ranges are referenced in Clause 12.04, and Statement of Planning Policy No 8 continues to be referenced as local policy at Clause 22.01. Have clearly articulated the limits of Melbourne... Urban Growth Boundary does not extend to Macedon Ranges... new suburb of Toolern is south east of Melton.  If re-elected, would continue to support the protection of the Macedon Ranges... encourage council and community to develop its planning scheme accordingly... A range of mechanisms are available to assist Council in managing the location, form and scale of future development.
